Parks and Recreation

Delaware County has a wide variety of recreational facilities, parks and landmarks. Each park offers its own unique beauty and activities. The Department of Parks & Recreation oversees all major parks and smaller parks that the County owns.

Parks located in Delaware County:
Clayton Park
Although Delaware County has three other major and numerous smaller parks, none can offer the extra special appeal of Clayton Park. This 170-acre park has a rolling green nine-hole golf course. Its manicured fairways offer a challenge to players who take advantage of the low costs. A PGA certified Golf Pro is available to assist all golfers with scheduling and starting times. It is the County's largest park and offers six playing fields, 11 shaded wooden picnic groves and acres of beech/maple climax forest. There is ample parking throughout the park to accommodate the various activities. The acres of scenic woodlands are an added attraction including a sprawling nature trail.
Rose Tree Park
Rose Tree Park is situated on 120 acres of ground in Upper Providence Township. This aesthetically beautiful park has many outstanding features including: rolling hills, wood land, picnic areas, a nature trail, a former steeplechase area and a picturesque gazebo. There are three historical buildings, two of which are used to accommodate several County Departments and one of these houses (the old Rose Tree Tavern) is on the National Registry of Historic Places. Starting in mid June thru late August, Rose Tree is host for The Summer Festival. This popular series of outdoor concerts are performed on the amphitheater stage and viewed nightly by five to six thousand spectators. There are fifty of these spectacular concerts and each one brings its own unique and colorful performance designed for the enjoyment of all. The Summer Festival is free of charge with ample free parking. The park also rents out garden plots for the aspiring gardener. Every year, during December through early January, the park is decorated for The Festival of Lights.
Smedley Park
After fifty years of quiet tranquility Smedley Park's 120 acres of Park land has been transformed into a more modern, useful and scenic area, while still maintaining all of its natural beauty. Named after the founder of Delaware County's Park & Recreation Board Member, Samuel L.Smedley. The County has added to the Park's picnic, baseball and hiking areas with a new Environmental Center (Lewis House) that provides an area for Delaware County Cooperative Extension Staff and their variety of programs to operate. The County has constructed a modern, updated and safety conscious play area for children's enjoyment and handicapped accessible bathrooms.
Upland Park
Upland Park is located on Sixth Street in Upland Borough. Formerly called Camp Upland, this parcel of parkland was once owned by the Salvation Army and used for a period of twenty years as a day camp for underprivileged youngsters for summer vacations. It was purchased by Delaware County in 1968. With over sixty scenic acres, the park offers a great variety of activities such as a tot lot playground, wooded picnic groves, softball fields and acres of woodland areas for leisurely relaxation or nature walks. Redwood Community Theater hosts over a hundred performances each year, including Magicians, Barbershop Quartets, Jazz Combos, Pop Vocalist and a Children's Summer Theater. Twice weekly lessons in both Ballroom and Country Western Dances attract fans.
